Does your breath smell? Ever been talking to someone, and they back away slowly throughout the conversation? Maybe keep a coffee cup up to their noses a lot? Or good friends tell you the honest truth: your breath is bad.Are you, like millions of other people, searching for cures for bad breath? Below are ways to get rid of the stink and be back to smelling like roses.

Mouthwash and toothpaste may cure the problem for most people, but we're not addressing those folks. We're talking about the people who live with the shame of long-lasting smelly breath that never seems to go away. Every adult human being has morning breath. And most people's breath smells occasionally. But we're talking about long-term sufferers, people for whom the condition has been almost impossible to fix. Don't continue to suffer any longer.

1) Check out your tonsils. Tonsils can have some really foul-smelling things get stuck in them. Every looked in your throat and seen tiny white things that looked like stones, less than 1/16th of an inch long?

Made of white blood cells and/or rotting food, the material got impacted and form nasty-smelling bits called tonsilloliths. The stench is something like you'd imagine rotting food and impacted white blood cells to smell like. Check your tonsils for any small, white pieces of matter sticking out of holes or crevices. If you can do it without throwing up, you might want to use a bright light and probe the crevices behind the tonsils, too. (But wash your finger and do NOT use a foreign object. Puncturing yourself and having to go to the hospital is a bad idea.) Alternatively, you can just go to a throat doctor who can examine the area and clean it if necessary.

2) Get your colon working. Many people are uncomfortable discussing it, but if you have regular bowel movements, this can help your breath smell better, believe it or not. Your mouth is connected to your gut by a long series of intestinal tubing. (Sorry about the image.) If you have long periods between 'doing number two' (days or weeks), it is quite possible that the balance of good and bad bacteria in your system is out of whack.

Without going to the bathroom, toxins can't be properly eliminated from your body. And can come out in other places, like sweat, saliva, and breath.

3) Eat healthier foods. Eat more fiber, and you'll be regular. One excellent source: fresh fruits and vegetables. Cut down on processed foods (anything you buy in a foil or plastic package that could sit for months and not spoil).

If you won't do that, then get some powdered fiber like Metamucil and drink a glass or two a day. You can get some nice, citrus-tasting varieties. You will be regular in a short amount of time.

There are also some other factors to consider. It might seem obvious, but if you eat a lot of garlic, that's not only going to make your breath smell bad for a couple of hours. It can actually make it stink for days.

That's because garlic, as good as it is for killing bad bacteria, circulates in your system for three or four days, and the chemicals that make it stink get exhaled and sweated out (as mentioned in #2). The same goes for people who smoke, drink coffee, or eat a lot of junk food. Want to smell better? If you want to smell better, stop eating processed foodstuffs and foods like garlic and instead chew/eat things like mint leaves, cinnamon, and parsley. Mint leaves make a much better breath freshener than garlic.
